Pueblo has among the best Colorado golf courses. When you visit Pueblo make sure you play all 3 golf courses. Each one has its own characteristics.
Walking Stick opened for play in 1991 and was designed by award winning Arthur Hills Company and Keith Foster Architect. At the time of the opening Walking Stick
received much publicity as one of the top rated public golf courses in the United States. Since then Walking Stick has continued to be recognized annually by such
national publications as Golf Digest in their "places to play". Traditionally, Walking Stick has been chosen as a local US Open qualifying site. The U.S.G.A. has
selected this course to host the 2006 U.S. WOMEN'S AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP. This is a very prestigios event and we are justifiably proud of this honor.
With its four sets of tee on each hole, Walking Stick offers players of all abilities an opportunity for a rewarding and challenging golf. When you come to play this course
bring the big stick. Unlike other Colorado courses, the driver will be used on all par 4's & 5's. With its undulating green it is necesarry to be on the right level with the pin.
Elmwood Golf Course opened in 1933 as a WPA project and hosted the Southern Colorado Open from 1960-1964 with a host of pro's. Dutch Harrison, Ted Hart, Dale Douglas and Tommy Bolt to
name a few. In 1965 the course was redesigned and converted to 27 holes and in 2001 the irrifation system was totally renovated along with a few hole changes. Some fairways were
widened along with two par 4 goles being revamped. Hole #3 is now a par 5with a long tee shot you can reach a two tiered green, surrounded with bunkers, with an exceptional mid to long iron.
#4, the signature hole is a short 143 yard par 3 which is also surrounded by bunkers and will require one of your best short iron shots of the round.
The executive 9 is one of the best in the state and will sharpen anyone's iron game as you hit to some very smal greens.
Come to the sunbelt and enjoy a round of golf at Elmwood where the fairways are plush, the greens are relatively flat with a lot of settle breaks and the trees are big and plentiful.
Desert Hawk Golf Course has stood the test of time and is now reaping its rewards. After many years of up and down times with numerous owners, Desert Hawk was purchased in 1999 by The County of Pueblo. That summer, under the guidance of Director of Golf Mike Zaremba and architect Art Shaupeter, a $1.2 million renovation commenced. A much needed irrigation system was installed as well as two new greens. All bunkers were redesigned with the elimination of 36 and the installation of 29 new ones. The end product, according to recent players’ opinions,
is an enjoyable golf experience at a fair price.
